about
The song is based on a simple idea, a question: at what point will we sacrifice our personal comfort, security, and money for the betterment of humanity and the planet at large?
I originally wrote it to be directed at the elites who are pulling the strings of destruction, but it evolved to be more introspective, directed at myself, you, all of us that so easily fall in line with a culture of greed.
lyrics
Can't you hear the warnings?
Water will soon be over our head
Can't you read the numbers?
Temperature's getting into the red
Tell me, how can you face it?
Tell me, why can't you change it?
and when the oceans are rising and the forests are burning,
when will you sacrifice what you're earning?
When you build the weapons
Do you think about the people they'll kill?
Does the shining steel on your skin
ever give you the chills?
Tell me, is it on your conscience?
Tell me, are your dreams haunted?
Tell me, is this what you wanted?
But when the profits are rising and the gears are turning,
When will you sacrifice what you're earning,
when will you sacrifice the money you're earning?
Well the sun is rising, time to put on that business attire
You used to be a dreamer, now you're fuel in the corporate fire
Tell me, how do you keep on grindin?
Tell me, are you really smilin?
Tell me, who do you confide in?
Tell me where is the truth hiding?
Cause when you're part of a machine and the wheels keep turning
year after year it keeps turning and turning
when you're part of a fire and it keeps on burning
when will you sacrifice what you're earning?
when will you sacrifice the money you're earning?
when will you sacrifice the money?
We gotta change, we gotta change
